Where Coats Hang Out

 Where Coats Hang Out

Objectified showed a lot of insight into what it meant to design. Different design aspects are important, such as understanding the extremes, and how to make them accessible. How the form follows the function, and how that changed in the coming years due to the function being, extremely small (like Technology, etc). Including how to make objects more sustainable, and more efficient. To make things more effective while using less or to make things cheaper by cutting out the same material.

These are my 7 quickly sketched drawings of random coat hangers that could be used, all of which either should be mounted on a wall or held by a door.

Although some of them, mainly, 5, 6 &7, are just funny designs, I tried to put more of the design process within the others.

1. The Switch. Trying to include a moving swinging part that swings downwards, so it isn't intrusive, It might wear down the hinge so it ultimately would not fit in the best design. The concept itself was interesting, as it would not always constantly stay out but that would rarely happen in reality.

2. The Key Generic. It does represent a board with hooks on it. With the added part of Key hook storage as well, as if to mark coats and keys together to not forget when leaving for work etc. The design is generic, plain and boring, and also not possible to be 3d printable. This takes it out of the chosen designs.

3. The Anchor. Possibly the design I put the most design details in, it's not over-designed, yet it appears interesting to look at while also serving multiple functions. The J hook of course can be printed out with the added anchor sides to be printed separately but added and screwed on as well. The Poles provide access to key storage again or other coats to be hanged, I see this as the most plausible hook I sketched.

4. The Doorway. Too simplistic, but I tried to make one that wasn't nailed or screwed on the door, but instead hung from the door wat, although the added part at the bottom was meant to spread out the coats like a hanger, it came out too boring and uninteresting.

5. The Trunk. This is an Elephant, the trunk was used to look cool and funny while also holding your coat :)

6 & 7. Similar enough to be included together. The Crocodile Jaw and The Snapping Turtle. Simple fun designs that use their jaws as the hanger. I doubt it would be printable though.

This process was fun to sketch up and talk about. Most likely to make The Anchor the finalized version. Although not all of them fully embrace the principles of design, I'm willing to turn to the ones that do and focus more on the design aspect. I hope this is acceptable.
